Comcast Subscibers in Springfield, Decatur and Lincoln

If you watch us on cable in Springfield, Decatur or Lincoln there is an important change coming that may affect your ability to receive our programs.  Comcast has designated WSEC-TV as the secondary PBS station.  This means Comcast customers who subscribe to their analog package will not be able to receive our programs.  We have voiced our strong objection to this designation, citing our involvement in the community with regular local programs like Illinois Stories, Capitol View, the Ambassador Series, the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet and many others.  We also asked for and received vocal support from community leaders who verified that, indeed, WSEC-TV should be the primary PBS station for, at least, Springfield, its city of license.  Comcast, however, has refused to change this decision.

Beginning on April 22, 2009 many of you will try to find our programs on Cable Channel 8, as you have in the past, and many will be disappointed.  So will all of us at WSEC-TV, because we've done all we can to bring you the quality you have come to expect, and to lose our viewers is to lose part of our family.  If you are among those affected, here are some alternatives:

• Subscribe to a satellite service, like DirecTV or Dish Network
• Upgrade to a digital TV and antenna system
• Upgrade your Comcast package

We are sorry to bring you this disturbing news.  Rest assured that anything that diminishes your ability to view our programs is a very serious matter to us.  We will continue to make Comcast aware that its decision is negatively impacting its PBS customers.

The following channel (ch) changes will be made to the Comcast lineup in the following areas:

BALL TWP, BISSELL, CHATHAM, CURRAN TWP, DECATUR, DIVERNON, FORSYTH, GARDNER TWP, GLENARM, GRANDVIEW, HARRISTOWN, ILLIOPOLIS, JEROME, LELAND GROVE, LINCOLN, LONG CREEK, MT. PULASKI, MT. ZION, NIANTIC, PAWNEE, ROCHESTER, SOUTHERN VIEW, SPAULDING, SPRINGFIELD, SPRINGFIELD TWP, WOODSIDE TWP.

 Effective April 22, 2009:

• WSEC World will be added on Basic Service ch 417**.
• WSEC (PBS) will be replaced by WSEC-DTSD (PBS) on ch 8** and will require a digital receiver or compatible equipment.

**A digital receiver, a digital TV (that can see unencrypted QAM Digital signals) or CableCARD-equipped device is required to view this channel.
